This is it, Ghost of a Dream,

Art Projects, London Art Fair
18 – 22 January, 2012

To mark the official opening for applications for the Young Masters Art Prize, 2012, winners of the inaugural 2009 prize, Ghost of a Dream, will exhibit their installation this is it in the Projects Section of the London Art Fair. The exhibition will be on display for the duration of the London Art Fair (18th – 22nd January). On the opening afternoon, Adam Eckstrom, from the artistic duo Ghost of a Dream, will be ‘in-conversation’ with renowned art historian and journalist and Chair of the Young Masters Art Prize 2012  Judging Panel, Godfrey Barker. This forms part of the scheduled Talks programme of the London Art Fair.

The sculptures and installations of the Brooklyn-based collaborative pair (Lauren Was and Adam Eckstrom) explore cultural obsessions for opulence and the present-day consumer dream. Using the by-products and refuse generated by popular culture, Ghost of a Dream create artworks that invite the spectator to muse upon their personal aspirations and the lure of wealth.

Constructed from a combination of old mirrors, lottery tickets, romance novels and sand-bags, this is it surrounds the viewer with a highly sensory display of colour, light and detailed decoration. With its conflicting blend of lavishness and detritus from cheap consumer culture, the installation embodies the conceptual sophistication and talented craftsmanship characteristic of Ghost of a Dream’s work.

This Is It will be on display between 18th – 22nd January  at:
Art Projects, London Art Fair
Business Design Centre, Islington London N1

Adam Eckstrom from Ghost of a Dream will be in conversation with Godfrey Barker at 4.30pm on Wednesday 18th January. Check the London Art Fair website to reserve tickets.
