The Young Masters Art Prize, an International prize celebrating emerging and established contemporary artists who pay homage to the skill and innovation of the Old Masters and art of the past, launches its fourth edition and Call for Artists on the 4th October 2016.
Applications are invited until 28th February 2017.
The Young Masters Art Prize & Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize will be judged by two separate panels. The overall Young Masters shortlist will be announced in April 2017 and the winners will be announced at the end of June 2017 during the prize exhibition in St. James’s, London. The winners of the 2017 edition will be invited to exhibit their work worldwide as part of the Young Masters International Tour in 2017-2018.
A judging panel including, art historian Godfrey Barker (Chair), Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal Academy of Arts, Charles Saumarez Smith, art market columnist for the Financial Times and Editor at Large for The Art Newspaper, Melanie Gerlis, writer and filmmaker Hannah Rothschild, Professor of Contemporary Art and Photography at University for the Creative Arts, Jean Wainwright, and previous curator of Young Masters Art Prize LLP Daisy McMullan, will award three prizes: an overall prize of £2,000. Two highly commended prizes of £500 each will be presented courtesy of the Artist Collecting Society (ACS). A new ‘Be Smart About Art’ award of £500 will be inaugurated with this edition of the prize.
The Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize will be judged by a panel comprising the Crafts Council’s Daniella Wells; Janice Blackburn, Curator of Contemporary Arts and Crafts at Sotheby’s; ceramics patron Maylis Grand and collector Preston Fitzgerald. A main Ceramics Prize of £1,500 and a Highly Commended Prize of £500 will be awarded.
