Young Masters at Collect
SAATCHI GALlERY
22 - 25 february 2018
Young Masters participated in the Craft Council's annual fair Collect 2018 at the Saatchi Gallery, showcasing selected works with The Cynthia Corbett Gallery. All participating artists show an exceptional command of the medium of ceramics alongside an awareness of the heritage of ceramic craft.
Highlights included a solo focus presentation of new works by Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize 2017 winner Lucille Lewin whose latest works in porcelain and glass are part of an ongoing series The Time Between The Time. Phoebe Cummings, recent winner of the BBC Women’s Hour Craft Prize, describes ‘a sense of alchemy, quietly resolving itself into a new understanding of who we are in relation to our bodies as we approach the future.’
Following his critically acclaimed, Arts Council England funded Wunderkammer installation at Collect 2017, Matt Smith, winner of the 2014 Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize, debuted Wunderkammer II at Collect 2018. In this latest project, Smith combines new subversive and comical forms with white Parian and found ceramics. Matt also received Collect's prestigious 'Object of the Show' Award, selected by Ekow Eshun.
